This is one of our key areas of focus here at Autism Home Network and a source of much success for our Non-Profit Organization. Recreational Opportunities
AHN understands that oftentimes the family has exhausted their funds for their loved ones in many ways other than anything fun. That is why we try and help when we can. Many times during respite we will plan (if opportunity presents itself) to provide some kind of recreational adventure. These adventures that are pre-approved through AHN will potentially be covered by AHN. Additionally, AHN helps those that are living in an adult foster care facility. Did you know that every person who receives social security disability in the state of Michigan has to pay their room and board from that monthly SSI check? Once the room and board is covered for their home/rent the individual only has $44 per month to buy anything that they need/want. I can assure you that we personally spend more than that on coffee/soda every month. So, you can imagine an occasional sweet tooth or wanting fast food. Even seasonal opportunities like going to the orchard for a cider and donut, going to the local splashpad, enjoying festivals, a concert, etc. are all expenses that most individuals do not have the privilege of having. AHN provides those opportunities for individuals. Including but not limited to therapy equipment, food, clothing, and recreational items and opportunities.
